Annie's Environmental Song on New Compilation CD - December 12, 2006

Annie Dinerman is among the artists represented on a new compilation CD released by The Public Domain Foundation, a project of Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary. The Foundation sponsors the Music To Life songwriting competition, which salutes songs of social concern. From over 170 submissions, 11 songs were chosen to appear on the CD. As a finalist in the 2006 Music To Life competition, Ms. Dinerman sang her song "One Planet At A Time" in June at the Threadgill Theatre as part of the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, Texas. The song is a witty look at the cost to our planet when our tax dollars are spent in space.

Annie's Environmental Christmas song, "Earth And Sky", was recorded by The Broadway Kids on The Broadway Kids Sing Christmas CD, and by Nancy LaMott on the Just In Time For Christmas CD.

Abe Olman Award Winner - June 12, 2006

I'm very proud to let you know that I've just received the Abe Olman Scholarship for Excellence in Songwriting from the Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF). The award , consisting of a plaque and a check in the amount of $1,200.00, was presented to me by Hal David, the Chairman and CEO of SHOF.

After the awards were presented, a Master Class was given by Hal David. I had waited years for the chance to thank him for writing the lyrics to "My Heart Is An Open Book", a song which always inspires me to write with an open heart. Having owned many recordings of his
songs, I was thrilled to hand Hal my new CD, with my song, "Single Woman," which is partly an homage to his classic song, "Walk On By".

You can read the announcement at the Songwriters Guild website: http://www.songwritersguild.com/olman.htm

Kerrville Folk Festival - June 5, 2006

Excuse me, stewardess, but what decade is this?! It's always the 1960s at the annual Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville Texas, and amen to that, Brother Man. On June 2nd, I was a finalist at Kerrville in the Music To Life songwriting competition, a contest to promote songs for social change, with my song, "One Planet At A Time." Among the other finalists, I met John Seay, an award-winning Baltimore singer-songwriter-producer, and we immediately began discussing the possibilties of booking some house concerts together in Baltimore and New York. Paul Stookey and Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary attended the Music To Life showcase, where my song, "One Planet At A Time", was one of 10 finalists from 177 entries. If you'd like to know more about the festival (or reminisce about your own past trips to Kerrville), CLICK ON THE TITLE of this news item to read all about it in my latest blog entry at myspace.com. Score a free download of "One Planet At A Time" on that page (only through June 15th, 2006). Look for a link to the Kerrville Folk Festival website. And pass me those brownies, Man. And the capo.
